Eton College was buzzing with energy on January 17th as we celebrated the Thai Pongal festival! The air
was filled with the sounds of traditional music and the aroma of sweet Pongal during a vibrant day of
gratitude and culture.
The festivities kicked off with a colourful student procession, featuring sugarcane, turmeric, and banana
plants. Students then worked alongside teachers to cook the traditional Pongal dish, gaining a hands-on
appreciation for harvest traditions. The celebration was capped off with lively cultural performances and the
joyful sharing of a community meal.
It was a wonderful opportunity for our students to immerse themselves in Tamil culture, learning about the
importance of farming, gratitude, and unity. A truly sweet and successful celebration for the entire Eton
family!
